It covers inter-generational community dynamics, the scope of board and management responsibility, the business judgment rule and protection from liability for aiding one in need, balancing the right to privacy with the obligation to protect owners from harming themselves and others, hoarding, fair housing and more.
Speakers
Jeffrey A. Beaumont, Esq. a senior partner with Beaumont Gitlin Tashjian, has focused his entire legal career on representing common interest developments. His extensive experience and devotion to the community association industry have set Mr. Beaumont apart as a distinguished attorney.
Among his many accomplishments for his clients, Mr. Beaumont successfully defended a community association client and its board of directors and manager against personal injury claims from mold exposure by owners who alleged that the association and others failed to repair water leaks in a timely manner. The case was tried twice, based on claims of juror misconduct; Mr. Beaumont obtained a defense verdict for his client both times, with the owners taking nothing.
Mr. Beaumont is an active member of the California Association of Community Managers (CACM), the Community Associations Institute (CAI), and serves as the 2012 President of Greater Los Angeles Chapter of CAI. He also serves on the faculty for CACM and CAI (National), is a member of the Legal Steering Committee for CACM, and a delegate for the California Legislative Action Committee for CAI..
Ellen Hirsch de Haan, Esq., is a partner at Wetherington Hamilton, P.A. As a shareholder of the Firm’s Tampa Bay Office, Ms. de Haan focuses her practice in the area of Community Association Law, representing condominium, cooperative, timeshare and homeowner associations.
Ms. de Haan served on the Boards of the Community Associations Institute ("CAI") Broward County and Suncoast Chapters, and has served on and/or chaired the Public Policy Committee, the Strategic Planning Committee, and the Public Affairs Council of the National Community Associations Institute; served as a Trustee on the CAI National Board, and is a past President of CAI National. Ms. de Haan is also a Past President of the Community Associations Institute Foundation for Community Association Research. She served for six years as a Commissioner for the National Board of Certification – Community Association Managers (“NBC-CAM”). Currently, Ms. de Haan serves on the Board of Governors of the College of Community Association Law (CCAL).
Matt D. Ober, Esq. of Richardson Harman Ober PC, is a recognized leader, noted author, featured speaker and faculty member on all facets of the community association industry. He is an active supporter of and contributor to the Community Association industry through both the Community Associations Institute (CAI) and the California Association of Community Managers (CACM). Mr. Ober is a contributing author of CAI’s California Law Course for Common Interest Development Managers. Mr. Ober has served two terms as President of CAI’s local chapter serving the Greater Inland Empire. He is an inductee to the organization’s Hall of Fame; recipient of the Chapter’s President’s award; and recipient of the Outstanding Service Award. He is also a three-term delegate to CAI’s California Legislative Action Committee and a member of CAI’s National Faculty as well as a member of CACM’s Faculty and Legal Steering Committee.
