Gun control remains an ever-present, politically charged debate in America. Most of these debates focus on state and local governmental limitations on gun ownership and possession. However, is there any legal basis for community associations to regulate guns? Are community associations bound by the Constitution? Are there considerations beyond the Constitution? This presentation analyzes relevant legal issues related to enactment and enforcement of firearm regulations in community associations.

Program Description
Gun control remains an ever-present, politically charged debate in America. Most of these debates focus on state and local governmental limitations on gun ownership and possession. However, is there any legal basis for community associations to regulate guns? Are community associations bound by the Constitution? Are there considerations beyond the Constitution? This presentation analyzes relevant legal issues related to enactment and enforcement of firearm regulations in community association.
Speakers:
Joseph Adams, Esq. joined Becker & Poliakoff, P.A. in 1987. He concentrates his legal practice on the law of community associations, primarily representing condominium, cooperative and homeowners' associations, as well as country clubs, mobile home communities and amenities associations such as marinas and golf courses. He has been very active in community association legislation and rulemaking and has drafted several pieces of legislation affecting community associations that have been adopted by the Florida Legislature.
Marc D. Markel is a shareholder and founding member of Roberts Markel Weinberg Butler Hailey PC. He is Board Certified in both Residential and Commercial Real Estate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Mr. Markel is a member of the Property Owners Association Subcommittee of the Real Estate Section of the State Bar of Texas. He is a member of the CAI National Faculty and a Fellow of CAI.
Robin L. Strohm, Esq. is a principal of the law firm Williams & Strohm, LLC, and has been representing community associations since 2004. Ms. Strohm graduated from Capital University Law School and The Ohio State University. Her practice is focused primarily in condominium and homeowners association law. She is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and Columbus Bar Association. She is admitted to practice in all Ohio courts and the Federal District for the Southern District of Ohio.
Kimberly Sutter, Esq. became licensed to practice law in Indiana in June 2016. However, she began representing condominium and homeowners association in 2003 as an attorney licensed in the State of Ohio. Her prior practice concentrated in community association law. Kim’s philosophy in representing community association clients is to be proactive and to educate board members to provide the tools necessary to effectively govern their associations.
