- Human Resources - What You Don’t Know About Employment Law Could Bankrupt Your Associations; presented by T. Armstrong and L. Lightman; Learn simple steps to avoid common employment law pitfalls. This session covers requirements for independent contractors, overtime issues, harassment and hostile work environments. Discusses these and other dangers that could bankrupt your associations. (90 minutes)
- Finance & Budgeting Concepts - An Ounce of Prevention: How to Stop Fraud & Embezzlement; presented by C. Koester; This webinar addresses ways board members, managers, management companies and accountants can prevent, detect and minimize financial vulnerability to fraud, theft and other white-collar crimes. (60 minutes)
- Board Governance and Volunteer Management - Difficult & Disabled: Strategies for Dealing with Aging; presented by S. Allen and J. Hale; Handling elderly or disabled residents can present challenges for the most seasoned practitioners and well meaning boards. This session provides an understanding of cases and laws that govern interactions with elderly residents who elect to age in place and disabled residents whose families warehouse them in community associations as opposed to qualified treatment facilities or at home. It also identifies liability considerations and outlines strategies for creating successful relationships with these individuals. (60 minutes)
- Finance & Budgeting Concepts - Money Matters: Budgeting 101; presented by S. Silberman and K. Cermak; This session includes strategies for Reserve Studies and financial reporting, understanding value in accurate financial reports, and using the Reserve Study to benefit the Association. Having a budget process to plan for and predict expenses can preserve the fiscal health of your association. Kara Cermak, a CAI national faculty member, and Steve Silberman, an experienced community association accountant, team up to discuss ways to think outside the box about operating expenses, reserves and much more. Learn how to prepare, execute and evaluate a successful budget and fulfill your fiduciary duties. (60 minutes)
- Human Resources - Navigating Association Services: Contractors, In-house Staff & Outsourced Employment; presented by J. Cutlip, P. Kristian, J. Ramsey, and J. Loheac; In times of budget-crunching, associations are seeking more options for managing an efficient workforce. This webinar discusses employment arrangements from unions and independent contractors to pass-through employees and association personnel. It will also cover legal pitfalls and practical issues and provide real-world examples to illustrate various hiring practices. (60 minutes)
- Disaster Preparedness - Covering Your Assets: Natural Disaster Planning and Recovery; presented by S. Eanni and J..Guse; Regardless of where you live, a natural disaster often is a question of “when,” not “if.” Is your community prepared for when disaster strikes? This webinar will assist community association boards and community managers with disaster preparation and recovery. In addition to loss prevention tips and measures, common insurance coverages and exclusions for natural disasters within community associations are covered. (60 minutes)
