Program Description
Beyond the significant body of knowledge of the law and case law that governs the community association law practice are the actual business itself and daily realities and routines within the practice. Learn about recruiting attorneys, desirable skill sets to seek, client intake, developing and keeping clients, communications, marketing, talking to the media, and value billing.
Speakers:
- Ellen Hirsch de Haan, Esq., Wetherington Hamilton P.A., Tampa, FL: has practiced community association law in Florida for 33 years (and counting). She is a past President of CAI National and of the CAI Research Foundation, and served on the PMDP Faculty for 18 years. Ellen is the author of a number of books for the industry, including "A Place to Age," and a children's book, "Elephants, Aardvarks and Me." She is a fellow of the College of Community Association Lawyers, and has been recognized by CAI National on a number of occasions for her contributions to CAI and the industry as a whole. Ellen currently serves on the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas County (Florida).
- Lincoln W. Hobbs, Esq., Hobbs & Olson | Carpenter Hazlewood, Salt Lake City, UT is active in numerous professional and community service projects, having served for years as a member of the Utah State Bar's Ethics and Discipline Panel, and as an officer of the Utah State Bar Labor and Employment Section, of which he served as chair in 2002-03. Hobbs is also the founder and past president of the Utah Chapter of the Community Associations Institute (CAI), an organization dedicated to fostering vibrant, responsive, competent community associations. In the spring of 2003, CAI gave Hobbs the Award of Excellence in Chapter Leadership, in recognition of his service to CAI and the Utah community association industry.
- Frank A. Lombardi, Esq., Goodman, Shapiro & Lombardi, LLC, Lincoln, RI: An expert on community association law and a former court-appointed receiver for condominium associations, Lombardi handles a variety of association-related issues including but not limited to document drafting, covenant enforcement, assessment collection, construction defect litigation, contract negotiation, and association loans. He recently expanded the firm’s loan service offerings.
