Speakers:
- Jon H. Epsten, Esq., Epsten Grinnell & Howell, APC, San Diego, CA; is the founding shareholder in the law firm of Epsten Grinnell & Howell, APC. Jon is a native San Diegan who graduated from the University of San Diego and obtained his law degree from Thomas Jefferson School of Law, graduating with scholastic merit. For years, Jon acted as a community association manager. Jon estimates he has attended well over 2,000 association meetings. Jon’s work on behalf of community associations encompasses providing advice on all types of corporate matters including directors’ and officers’ defense, mold and mildew litigation, interpretation and enforcement of governing documents, assessment collection, construction defect litigation, and construction and remediation issues.
- Sandra L. Gottlieb, Esq., SwedelsonGottlieb, Los Angeles, CA; is one of California’s leading community association attorneys and a founding partner of the law firm of SwedelsonGottlieb, which limits its practice to the representation of California homeowner associations, including condominiums, planned developments and cooperatives. Sandra began her practice of law in 1978 and first represented unions as labor counsel, then worked for ABC as labor counsel representing management’s interest in union and employment matters. Thereafter, Sandra spent seven years working at 20th Century Fox, first as Director of Business Affairs in its telecommunications division, then as Vice President of Business Affairs in its licensing and merchandising division. Sandra began representing and providing legal counsel to community associations in the mid-eighties. Sandra has lived in two condominium associations, including a master and sub-association and a Planned Development.
- Janet L. S. Powers, Esq., Fiore, Racobs & Powers, Irvine, CA, CCAL fellow, has been a member of the California State Bar since 1985. She is a senior supervising attorney in Fiore Racobs & Powers' Irvine office. Ms. Powers received her preparatory education at the University of California at Los Angeles where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree (B.A.) in English. She earned her Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree at Southwestern University School of Law. Ms. Powers is a member of the Orange County Bar Association and Community Associations Institute (CAI). She is a member of the prestigious College of Community Association Lawyers of CAI (CCAL) and previously served on the Editorial Board of the CCAL Journal of Community Association Law. She was the President of the Board of Directors of the Orange County Regional Chapter of CAI in 2001.
