Learn how technological advances can affect managers’ career longevity, the number of community residents who want to serve on an association board, and liability for both managers and board members.

Speakers:
- Douglas J. Henken, CIRMS, Community Association Underwriters of America, Chantilly, VA; heads the Mid Atlantic Sales office of Community Association Underwriters of America, (CAU). He is a frequent speaker,educator, and writer on the subject of community association insurance and risk management. A graduate of James Madison University in 1985, he has worked in the insurance industry for 31 years, insuring community associations exclusively since 1994. He is a member of the National Faculty of CAI - teaching the M205 "Risk Management" course nationwide He co-authored and co-presented CAI National's first webinar on the subject of Director's and Officer's liability insurance coverage and has contributed articles for the WMCAI monthly publication Quorum as well as for Common Ground, the national publication for CAI.
- Susan C. Manch, CMCA, AMS, PCAM, FirstService Residential AAMC, Fredericksburg, VA; Prior to joining FirstService Residential, Manch was the founder and owner of Battlefield Management until it merged with Armstrong Management in 2007. She has been involved in the community association management industry since 1993 and has substantial experience working developing communities, active adult, single, multi-family and condominium communities.
- Edward J. O'Connell, III, Esq., Whiteford, Taylor & Preston, LLP, Falls Church, VA; has almost 20 years of experience in all facets of common interest associations, from day-to-day business operations to litigation between boards and owners. This form of ownership, which includes condominiums, co-ops and homeowners’ associations, has spread rapidly in the past few decades and raises its own unique legal issues of relations between boards, who operate in some ways like elected city councils, and homeowners.Mr. O’Connell, who is admitted in both Washington DC and Virginia, represents communities in both jurisdictions, and has been active in the Washington chapter of the CAI for many years.
