Handling elderly or disabled residents can present challenges for the most seasoned practitioners and well meaning boards. This session provides an understanding of cases and laws that govern interactions with elderly residents who elect to age in place and disabled residents whose families warehouse them in community associations as opposed to qualified treatment facilities or at home. It also identifies liability considerations and outlines strategies for creating successful relationships with these individuals.

Program Description
Handling elderly or disabled residents can present challenges for the most seasoned practitioners and well meaning boards. This session provides an understanding of cases and laws that govern interactions with elderly residents who elect to age in place and disabled residents whose families warehouse them in community associations as opposed to qualified treatment facilities or at home. It also identifies liability considerations and outlines strategies for creating successful relationships with these individuals.
Speakers:
Sean D. Allen is a Senior Associate attorney with the law firm of Roseman & Associates, APC, which has offices in Southern California. Mr. Allen is an active member of Community Associations Institute (CAI) in several Southern California chapters and has authored a number of articles pertaining to common interest development law and its application to community associations in California. Additionally, he has been a featured speaker at CAI events, including the 2014 Davis-Stirling Rewrite Seminar. Mr. Allen is a member of the California Legislative Action Committee (CLAC) for the Channel Islands Chapter of CAI, and has previously served on the Golf Tournament Committee for that chapter.
Jasmine Fisher Hale, Partner, Adams Stirling PLC, gained extensive experience creating associations and their CC&Rs; drafting project operating agreements; managing and coordinating the company’s legal interests in its development projects; facilitating and overseeing entitlements, land use and zoning approvals with local governments; and assisting in project financing and acquisitions.
